ROM-SPACE
ROM-space is a dedicated satellite group of 15 to 18-year-olds from the IInternational Computing High School of Bucharest. They built the first-ever Romanian picosatellite - ROM-2 which will be launched on SpaceX's Q1.
With the goal of promoting STEM fields, they show Romanian youth that they can have a bright future in aerospace!
Presentation Synopsis:
“ROM-Space: First Romanian PocketQube”
IThe very beginning of our project dates back to a few years ago, in 2020* to be precise, when our team leader, Filip Buscu, started planning out the launch of the first Romanian picosatellite – ROM-2. Over the years, the team gradually grew in size, one person at a time, until it became who we are today :
- Filip Buscu, Project Manager/Payload
- Alexandru Luchianov, Lead Programmer
- David Constantinescu, Lead Electrical Engineer
- George Chirila, Payload
- Andra Palada, Public Relations Manager and Hardware
- Vlad Erceanu, Programmer
- Vladimir George Necula, Electrical
- Eliza Constantinescu, Financial manager and hardware
- Rares Balasescu, Programmer
We set off with the intention of proving that, despite whatever difficulties and challenges may arise, a project such as this one can in fact come to fruition in a short period of time and still be useful. So long as dedication, ambition and perseverance are the team’s core values, all hindrances can be solved and progress can continue. We were also highly motivated by the lack of previous projects similar to ours, so creating and launching the very first picosatellite in Romania is a real honour for our team members. Moreover, we truly want to promote STEM fields among the Romanian youth, since we know there are lots of talented students and they are the future of the aerospace field.
Regarding our future projects, we aim to launch up to 6 satellites by the end of the upcoming year – they would take high-quality photos of our planet every 20 minutes.
We want to take a moment to deeply thank everyone who helped us throughout this complex process – the 2 engineers who were kind enough to provide us with the hardware pieces, ….; the lovely AlbaOrbital team; and, of course, our great sponsors. Many thanks to all the wonderful people without whom we couldn’t have carried out our ambitions.
