Joe Latrell is a recovering rocket scientist, inventor, and developer living in Akron, Pennsylvania. He has worked as a programmer, project manager, and system engineer as well as carpenter. Recently, Joe participated in launching payloads to Earth orbit on vehicles such as SpaceX’s Falcon 9, Blue Origin’s New Shepard, and many others.
Currently, he is working to launch PocketQube satellites designed to monitor Earth’ resources. He is a published author and public speaker, bringing insights from today’s high tech and high frontier arenas.
Presentation Synopsis:
‘Using PocketQubes Beyond Low Earth Orbit (LEO)’
PocketQube satellites are a relatively new form factor for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) with less than a dozen launched to space. But could they be well suited for operations beyond LEO?
The possibilities for PocketQubes for use on Deep Space missions may dwarf the possible use cases in Earth Orbit. Using miniature nuclear batteries, PocketQubes could be equipped to assist larger exploration missions to Earth’s moon, other planets such as Mars, as well as asteroids and comets.
We’ll take a deep dive into the possible use cases for PocketQubes on these types of missions and what are the hurdles getting from here to there.
Topics Covered:
●A look at the state of nuclear batteries and how they may be used on PocketQubes.
●Drawbacks to radio operations in deep space.
●Using PocketQubes in flocks, constellations, or clusters on long duration missions.
●How does design change when developing for Deep Space?
